Employee Favorite RC Crawler Builds
Posted: 4/21/26
As an avid RC crawler enthusiast, I started out with the Axial SCX10 and competed in comp at the Team KNK Hardware TTC. Through 2022, I competed with my Axial SCX10, Axial SCX10.2, Axial SCX10.3 and Axial UTB 10 Capra. After I started working at Horizon Hobby, I had the privilege of representing Axial at the KNK Hardware TTC in 2022 & Beat The Creek in 2023 and 2024. Others may remember me while working at the sales tent at Axialfest Badlands in 2022, 2023, and 2024. It was during this time that I switched from doing comps to focusing on scale appearance and doing trails.
During my time as a guest at events and then as a representative, I have made many friends and made numerous connections with other vendors. Being able to continue attending events feels like being at home just hanging out with all my friends. I take pride in assisting others repair or tune their rigs at events. I have been there and know what itâs like to go to an event, break something and then not be able to enjoy the rest of the time there. If I am unable to help someone get their rig fixed, I know which vendor to send them to get their rig fixed and back out on the trail.

RC Crawler Events Make the Best Memories
During my time as an Axial representative at the Beat The Creek events, I got the pleasure of running the trails with the RC Addict, JoeRopes, and Hard Park Crawlers reps. Night trails with our rigs all lit up and hanging out make some of the best memories in my RC career. Numerous times other vendors have sent guests over to me for repairs. This makes me happy that the vendors all help each other to make the guestsâ experience the best it can be. One of my fondest memories was Beat The Creek 2023: Ryan from RC Addict stopped by the Axial booth asking about a repair for his SCX6. Next thing I know is he is doing a live feed showing myself getting his rig back up and running. Every year Beat The Creek is one of my must-attend events. Joe, Chris, and the rest of the team put on one amazing event.
My Favorite RC Crawler Builds
Going through my various crawlers, I have everything from the newest Axial SCX10 III Coyote and Axial SCX30 to the Axial SCX6. I have started to enjoy the scale aspect of crawling and making the truck look like a real vehicle while having the most performance I can get out of them. Starting with my SCX6, Iâve put tons of lights on it, 4WS, and a lowered stance to help it tackle the toughest terrain. Then I have my maxed out my Axial 1/8 Gilamon using the newest Spektrum receiver to have 10 channels of control. The Gilamon RC trail buggy utilizes all 10 channels by having 2 winches, 4WS, all 3 ASD, and lights. With the Gilamon paired to the Spektrum iXSR+, I have almost all the switches on the transmitter doing some sort of function on the truck. For my 1/24-scale, I have taken an Axial SCX24 and Axial AX24 and paired them to a Hard Park Crawlers chassis. Using the stock axles and transmission, the SCX24 and AX24 have that comp style setup that is perfect for backyard trail runs. I am always looking for that next build to be my next truck to WOW peopleâs minds and get people asking what all went into the build. For those interested in my favorite builds, I have included the parts used on a select few of my rigs.
