First purchase. Great experience...
Review by Bulldog62 on 16 Jan 2017review stating First purchase. Great experience...
I ordered an FMS Skytrainer 182 (blue) as a Christmas present to myself. I placed the order and the airplane arrived at my door within 48 hours. I was exstatic that it arrived so soon. After I opened the box I did a parts inventory and and examined all the parts for damage. Everything was in perfect condition. The only issue that I found was the port side main wing was missing a plastic dowel that allowed it to fit and help lock it to the top of the fuselage above the cockpit. Minor issue. I called Horizon and talked to tech support and they sent me a whole new wing, but since my plane was bought as RTF, the wings where missing servo's and lights. My first inclination was to return the plane and wing and just get a new plane, but I did'nt want to wait. I called Horizon back and talked to tech support again ( they are great by the way) and ask if they would just send me the missing servo's and lights. I told them I would install them my self. Now, they offered to send me a brand new plane. All I had to do was ship the one I had along with the wing back to them first, and then they would send me the new one. I told them it was'nt necessary and that I would install the parts. They were happy to do that and two days later I had all my parts. This is the first time I've purchased an rtf plane, so the fact that someone at the fms factory overlooked a small part could have ruined the whole experience for me, but I did'nt let it. It was not Horizons fault and was only a minor inconvieniance. So I would say, all in all, it was a great experience and I will be buying more aircraft from Horizon in the future.

Review by Brandon on 17 Mar 2014review stating Overall, an awesome plane for a beginner!!!
This is a great plane, I'm new to the flying hobby, and this lil plane is a perfect start for anybody.. Had an issue with the pegs on the front of the wings that lock into the fuselage, (one peg was backwards) but the guys at diamond hobby sent me a new set, so can't complain... That was the only issue.. Plane flies great and can definitely take a good lick, so I definitely recommend this plane to the beginner and advanced flier alike....

Not an easy build for the faint harted.
Review by Spaghettiman on 30 Dec 2019review stating Not an easy build for the faint harted.
The plane looks incredible, no one can deny that. The instructions are terrible. You can tell they were translated by someone. It took two days to fully build. Reason why is you have to glue parts and they don't supply the glue. So it needs to dry so that takes another day for the build. I didn't use epoxy glue which might speed up the build. I was shorted one long screw for the flaps and my hobby store did not have the correct length they are very small. The wiring harness is a major pain to route from the wing down into the plane. Just not enough space to get your fingers in so you need to make a hook out of a hanger to grab them. Then the wires were mislabeled. Had to pull them back out of the plane to figure them out. Last issue was I purchased the RTF version and could not figure out how to turn on the transmitter. Nothing in the instructions on how to turn it on. I opened a tech case with Horizon Hobby on the issue but finally figured it out. There are no labels on the controller, just two buttons. You need to hit both buttons at the same time quickly then release. Just by dumb luck I figured it out. The BIND worked good once I got the transmitter on. Just hit the button inside the receiver once and it will start flashing faster. Then turn on the transmitter and it starts beeping. The manual tells you what the beeps mean. The plane looks awesome no one can deny that and nice quality for a foam construction. Hope that helps.

Entry level trainer
Review by Elite F. on 1 Jan 2021review stating Entry level trainer
Overall is a good airplane, but like any other ARF, there is always things to fix to make it fly better.
Will start with what I do not like, for $199 the motor and ESC seem generic and cheap. The motor spinner design is one of the worst, not related to anything else, so no parts will work from other spinners or motors. The spinner uses a hexagon mold made out of plastic, if prop hits the ground will break spinner base easily and unable to fly the plane, becomes an expensive piece of foam. The spinner is its own design from FMS, cannot buy from anywhere else, not even the local shop carries it.
I wish FMS would have made a spinner standard, like Durafly, Freewing, E-Flite or some of the Banggood airplanes that uses similar mounts as to mix and match. It is either stock up on patented FMS spinners or swap the motor that uses standard prop mounts.
We move on to the motor mount, horrible design, and right now they are out of stock. Once again, unique in design, cannot use the X mounts found on E-FLite or Durafly airplanes, or some of the other FMS models. IMO, this airplane was bought and FMS just slapped their brand name to it to sell, but is not a FMS type of model.
The wing uses a center carbon spar that almost extends to the wing struts, leaving the other half of the wing on foam. Granny fly the plane or reinforce the rest of it with carbon slabs glued to the under side before doing aggressive maneuvers, or will experience wings snapping in half.
Mine arrived with the provided glue, dried out, fine with me, I had Foam Tac on hand to assemble. Wheel pants holes needed to be dremmel out as the holes were too small and scraping with the wheels. Elevator and rudder servo replaced, too noisy and not gradual smooth movements.
It may fly as is out of the box, but the above will need to be resolved probably sooner than later as things start to break. Of all things, I hate the spinner design that holds the prop. Just got it this past week, and one small hit to the grass in our field and broke the spinner mount, which is very weak/thin.
