The Southern Pacific had many subsidiary railroads, some big and some not so big. The Visalia Electric, located in Californiaâs San Joaquin Valley, was one of the smaller ones. When SP went shopping for new switchers in the late 1960âs they bought EMD SW1500âs for themselves and Cotton Belt. Maybe they picked up one or two for the VE too.
