Yes, a bind plug is often required to put a Spektrum receiver into bind mode to connect to the transmitter. Most of the modern Spektrum receivers have a bind button, eliminating the need for the plug. Check the receiver you have/intend to purchase to see if it has a bind button or if it requires a bind plug. Typically if a receiver requires a bind plug, it will come with one.
The Blade 230S ships with a bind plug. If you ever need a spare, this one (SPM6803) works fine.
Spektrum bind plugs are universal. They will work on anything that binds by connecting the outer two pins.
