The DSP75 offers superior speed, torque and precision for the class, and includes complete mounting hardware and an assortment of servo arms. You can optimize its performance for specific applications like airplanes, helicopters and tail rotors by adjusting the endpoints, gain and even direction using the Digital Servo Programmer (SPMDSP - sold separately). The DSP75 is a great choice for parkflyers as well as mini and micro helis.
Digital and analog servos have very similar construction and components. They both use the same type of motors, gears, cases, and have a potentiometer. A digital servo is different in the way it processes the incoming signal and converts that signal into servo movement.
An analog servo when it receives a command to move, takes that signal and sends pulses to the servo motor at about 50 cycles per second, which in turn moves the motor to its required position determined by the potentiometer.
A digital servo has a micro-processor that receives the signal and then adjusts the pulse length and amount of power to the servo motor to achieve optimum servo performance and precision. A digital servo sends these pulses to the motor at a much higher frequency which is around 300 cycles per second. This helps eliminate deadband, provides a faster response to the servo motor, smoother motor movement, and has higher resolution and holding power than an analog servo.
There are some disadvantages to digital servos, but the disadvantages are not in any way close to out weighing the advantages. A digital servo will have a higher power consumption (Around 10 to 15 mAh per servo at idle) than an analog servo due to its higher pulse frequency, so larger capacity battery packs are recommended. Digital servos also are more expensive than analog servos which can get very costly in applications that require many servos.
For JR servos we recommend Tamiya ceramic grease (TAM87025).
There are several scenarios which may attribute to this problem.
1. The servo arm fit on the output spline may be loose.
2. There may be slop or wear in the gear train.
3. There may be slop or binding in the linkages.
4. You may have a faulty servo saver.
5 The push rods may be too flexible.
6. Improperly mounted servo (screws too tight, mounting rail too tight against the servo)
7. Faulty extention, damaged lead or dirty connector.
8. Worn or dirty pot.
The frequency on operation is so high that it feeds back with FM receivers.
High precision digital servos like the Spektrum DSP60 and DSP75 feature a narrow deadband and high gain offering accurate centering and powerful holding torque. In some applications these servos can cause the control surfaces to oscillate (vibrate at neutral) when the servo should be at rest. This is caused by the servo attempting to aggressively return the control surface to its desired position and the mass and inertia of the control surface causes the system to overshoot and oscillate when the servo should normally be at rest. Following are tips on how to prevent this over shoot oscillation:
• Linkage GeometryBy changing the linkage geometry (the attachment point of the linkage on the servo horn and on the control horn) changes the mechanical advantage the servo has over the control surface and this greatly affects oscillation characteristics. Generally if oscillation occurs move the linkage on the servo arm inward one hole and or move the linkage on the control horn outward one or more holes. The geometry change will improve the mechanical advantage and in most cases with reduce or prevent control surface oscillation. This may require that the travel adjustment in the transmitter be increased to regain the total control throw.
• Dampening the Control SystemIf you have a surface that oscillates note that buy simply lightly touching the control surface the oscillation will cease. In fact in flight the air flowing over the surface will have a similar dampening effect that also causes the surface to stop oscillating. Effective methods of dampening the control system includes applying heavy grease to the gear train in the servo or to place a light rubber band on the control horn that lightly loads the servo.
• ProgrammingThe DSP servos are programmable for three specific applications: airplane, helicopter and tail rotor for helicopter. In airplane mode the DSP servo has the widest deadband and gain making it least prone to oscillation. When using the DSP servo in airplanes be sure the servo is programmed in the airplane mode (which is the default setting).
