Developed for the U.S. Navy, the Grumman F-14 Tomcat made its first deployment in 1974 aboard the USS Enterprise, replacing the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II. This E-flite model is based on the F-14D Super Tomcat variant and the factory-applied finish pays homage to Strike Fighter Squadron 2 (VFA-2), also known as the famous "Bounty Hunters". During its 2002-2003 deployment — the final cruise with the Tomcat — VF-2 participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom flying reconnaissance, close air support, CAP and strike missions. The F-14 Tomcat Twin 40mm EDF recreates the VF-2 fighter down to the functional variable-sweep wings and full-flying stabs to deliver an authentic and unique flying experience. It's scaled to be practical for more pilots to fly and afford because it's compatible with popular 4S 2200mAh batteries. It's ready to bind to your 6+ channel DSMX®/DMS2® equipped computer transmitter, plus you'll receive real-time telemetry data including battery voltage, current, motor RPM and more via compatible Spektrum AirWare™ equipped radios. The twin 40mm fans and brushless outrunner motors are compatible with affordable and common 4S 2200mAh 30+C batteries to deliver an excellent blend of performance and flight times. They come out of the box with the power system, servos and a Spektrum 2.4GHz receiver installed so all you need to do is bind the receiver to a compatible transmitter, finish any final assembly and fly!
This Bind-N-Fly Basic model is equipped with a Spektrum 2.4GHz DSMX® receiver featuring AS3X® (Artificial Stabilization–3-aXis) technology that works behind the scenes to smooth out the effects of wind and turbulence so you enjoy a sense of stability and precision that makes it feel like you're flying a much larger, expertly tuned aircraft.
If this is your first model of its type, or you want an extra margin of safety while familiarizing yourself with the airplane, you can enable the optional-use SAFE® Select flight envelope protection technology built into the receiver. No programming is required.
With SAFE Select enabled, you get:
Pitch and Bank Angle Limits
- These envelope limits keep the airplane from rolling or pitching upside down. They also prevent excessive climb or dive angles.
Automatic Self-Leveling
- The airplane instantly returns to and holds level flight when the sticks are released and in the center position. It's also helpful for keeping the wings level during takeoffs/launches and landings.
Easy Switch Assignment—No Complex Programming Required
- The simple procedure for assigning a transmitter switch to turn SAFE Select features on and off doesn't require any complex programming and takes just a few seconds. For models like this one, SAFE Select is automatically assigned to channel 5 (Gear) so you can turn it on an off with any switch assigned to that channel (switch A by default on most Spektrum computer transmitters).

Telemetry Capability
The F-14 Tomcat Twin 40mm EDF is equipped with a control unit including a receiver and ESCs that provide a variety of real-time power system related telemetry data including motor RPM, current, battery voltage and more to compatible Spektrum™ AirWare™ equipped transmitters (including the DX6e and 8e, DX6 G2/3 and 8 G2, the DX9, NX6, 8 and 10, iX12™, iX20™ and others) while you fly.

There won't be a PNP version as the flight controller incorporates the Spektrum receiver.
The F-14 requires a transmitter with Flight Modes, and activation of the flight mode trim function. This allows the trim settings to be different between each wing/flight mode position.
You don't say which transmitter you're using, but p.4 of the instruction manual describes the settings to make this work.
If you're using a transmitter without flight modes, the trim is going to change with each wing position.
The G2 DX6 can fly the F-14. The DX6i is not recommended.
Spektrum 4S 2200mAh 30C G1 and G2 Smart batteries work great and deliver flight times upwards of 4-6 minutes depending on throttle management and flying style. Longer 2200mAh batteries also fit, so batteries like the Smart 50C and 100C packs can be used to deliver a bit more performance (and run cooler)…but are NOT required to get great performance overall.
Yes, a 6+ channel Spektrum DSMX transmitter can fly this aircraft. Depending on your skill/experience level, this would make for a great second or third jet.
