During production of the E-flite UMX Gee Bee, small tolerances of components have led to some Gee Bee models hitting the Over Current Protection (OCP) during the first initial run of a fully charged battery. When this happens, the motor will shut off as programmed to protect the electronics from an over-current condition. The servos will not stop working and you will still have control of the plane. This only happens when the battery is at a fully charged state and will not happen in the course of an entire flight. To reset the motor, the throttle needs to be cycled back to low power. After the motor has been run for a few seconds and the voltage of the battery has come down, the system will not hit OCP.
This does not occur on all models and should be checked on the ground before each flight. Larger and or higher C rating batteries are not recommended for the Gee Bee, as this could cause the power system to run above the designed limit and hit OCP.Follow the instructions below to prevent hitting OCP during a flight.
Throttle the model up to full power on the ground and let it run for 10-15 seconds. If the model hits OCP and the motor shuts down, cycle the throttle and run the motor again near full power for at least 10 more seconds. This will bring the battery voltage down low enough to prevent hitting OCP during the flight.
Horizon is working to find a long-term solution as soon as possible.

Gee Bee aircraft competed in all the popular airplane races of the Golden Era of aviation. These highly-engineered, teardrop-shaped super planes required a skillful hand and perfect circumstances, but with the right pilot, they ruled the speed course.
The UMX™ Gee Bee® R2 model is yours to groove through the skies just about anywhere, because it features specially-tuned handling more in common with a Sunday sport model than a short-coupled engine with wings. The awe-inspiring UMX Gee Bee R2 replica offers handling so remarkably smooth, you’ll want to fly this authentically-scaled model every day. Its built-in, specially-tuned AS3X® System invisibly helps you enjoy the kind of silky handling and outstanding control you always wanted from a conveniently-sized RC model, but never thought possible before now. And you get all the benefits without having to spend a lot of setup time. No special programming is required. Just charge the included Li-Po battery, bind to a basic DSM2®/DSMX® airplane transmitter setup and the UMX Gee Bee R2 plane, enhanced with the AS3X System, will instantly offer you the best flight experience possible.
AS3X System-Equipped UMX Airplanes Deliver the Ultimate RC Pilot Experience
The AS3X® System delivers breakthrough performance for UMX™ airplanes and the freedom a pilot can use to experience RC flight that's more enjoyable than ever dreamed possible.
The AS3X System for airplanes is an exclusive electronic and setup enhancement that makes it possible for you to experience super-smooth flight performance, yet still have full control authority for the kind of flying you want to perform. The advantage of AS3X technology to the RC pilot is a dream come true.
An industry-first, AS3X technology in UMX airplanes is exciting, because it helps the pilot focus more on the thrill of being the pilot of an expertly-tuned airplane than the workload required to stay in smooth control. No longer will you have to deal intensely with flight complications such as turbulence, torque and tip stalls. All you feel is ultra-smooth control even outdoors in moderate wind, so that you're allowed to experience exhilarating aircraft agility that feels natural and quickly build skills as an RC pilot.
AS3X Gives You More Control
It's all about control. Before AS3X technology, stability and agility were typically limited to a narrow control range, and any attempt to gain more stability meant a sacrifice of agility or vice versa. With AS3X technology, there is no compromise. You get dramatically more control, plus more stability and agility than ever dreamed possible. Whether you're an airplane or helicopter pilot, the comprehensive control AS3X technology offers feels very natural, even in moderate winds, so you always get the best flying experience possible.
AS3X-equipped aircraft will change the way you'll want to fly now and in the future.
There's nothing special you need to do to take advantage of the invigorating control an AS3X System-equipped airplane will offer you. Every airplane equipped with the AS3X System is painstakingly tuned so that you enjoy the locked-in feel and control authority that will help show off your RC pilot skills.
