Hello, thank you for your inquiry. That flight controller is used only in the Apprentice STS, the SPM4650C receiver is required with it. Yes, the NX7E would work with it.

Correct, this item is not a receiver, and will not connect to a Spektrum transmitter. It requires the 4650 serial receiver (SPM4650).

The flight controller is the brain of the aircraft. It’s a circuit board with a range of sensors that detect movement of the aircraft, as well as user commands. Using this data, it then provides outputs to make the vehicle move as instructed (flight mode dependent). Nearly all flight controllers have basic sensors such as gyros and accelerometers. Some FC include more advanced sensors such as a barometer and GPS or compass, or serve as a hub for those external sensors.
