Free software update now available for download

For some time now, users of the JR 10X, XP 8103, and many other JR radios have been able to connect their radios to their computers to back up and share their model setting. However, one of the most popular JR radios was not able to use this function: the XP9303. Rest easy XP9303 owners out there, as your salvation is here with the release of the DataSafe 2 software for the XP9303. If you've never used DataSafe 2 with any other model radio, we'll walk you through exactly how to get it up and running.

Getting Started
To use the DataSafe 2, you're going to need a few items. First is the DataSafe 2 PC Interface Set (JRPA301) that includes the 9-pin serial interface, CD-Rom, and a manual. Additionally, you should click on over to www.JRradios.com and look up the product page for the DataSafe 2 PC Interface. On that page, click on support and you will find the link to download the latest version of software at no cost. To connect your transmitter to your computer, you will need a 9-pin serial port. If your computer does not have one of these connections on the back, you do still have some options.

Connecting to the PC
While most desktops still include a serial port on the back of the case, you'll be hard-pressed to find a laptop now that includes more than a monitor output and printer output. In many cases though, even those have been removed, replaced with USB connectors instead. While this can make it challenging to use the DataSafe 2 Interface with a laptop, it's by no means impossible. What you will need is a USB-to-Serial adapter which you can find at most computer or electronics stores for about $30. From there, simply connect the adapter to the interface, plug in the DSC Cable, and you're ready to go. As a heads up, some systems may require you to manually select the Comm Port under the control panel. Sorry to say that the DataSafe 2 Interface is for PC's only and there are no current plans to develop a Mac interface.

What Can DataSafe 2 Do for You?
Have you ever had to delete one model's setup just to make room for another in your radio? It can be frustrating to lose a setup that way or have to write it down to re-input later. DataSafe 2 makes it possible for you to essentially have an unlimited memory for your radio as you will be able to back up all of your setups on your desktop or PC. This can come in especially handy if you like to experiment with throws, expo, or other settings with the same model. DataSafe 2 allows you to take a setup you know you like, back it up, and modify it to your heart's content to see if you can find something better. And if you ever find that you changed something and didn't like it, going back to your original setup is as easy as uploading it back into your radio. And if you and your friend both use the same radio and you want to try his setup, all you have to do is have him e-mail the file to you and once you have it, upload it to your radio. This can really help you in testing setups, as two different pilots can work on setups and do twice the testing that one person normally can do and get a competitive advantage.

DataSafe 2 unlocks the true potential of many different radios, and now XP9303 users get to join the party. The ability to back up, copy, and alter setups without worrying about memory in the radio is invaluable and encourages you to experiment. It can even be the difference between winning an event and coming in 25th. Whether you fly just one model of five different models, the DataSafe 2 Interface will quickly prove its worth to you.
